Iglesia Ni Cristo

Founded on a mission to share the teachings of the Bible, Iglesia Ni Cristo has developed from a single congregation into a Christian church recognized worldwide. Officially registered on July 27, 1914, in the Philippines by Brother Felix Y. Manalo, the Church was established on faith in the one true God, belief in Jesus Christ as His Son and Savior, and the Bible as the only guide for doctrine and life. These foundational beliefs have kept Iglesia Ni Cristo members united and committed, allowing the Church to grow steadily over the past century. The Church’s early journey began in Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila, where a small group gathered under the leadership of Brother Felix to hear teachings based entirely on scripture. From this congregation, Iglesia Ni Cristo expanded throughout Manila and into provinces across Luzon, reaching people eager for clear, Bible-centered messages. The mission continued as the Church established congregations in the Visayas and Mindanao, building strong worship communities that spread across the Philippines. By the time Brother Felix Manalo passed away on April 12, 1963, Iglesia Ni Cristo had formed ecclesiastical districts in most provinces, creating a structure that supported worship services and strengthened the faith of its members. After Brother Felix’s passing, Brother Eraño G. Manalo became Executive Minister and led the Church into a new era of international growth. In 1968, Iglesia Ni Cristo opened its first congregations outside the Philippines in Honolulu, Hawaii, and San Francisco, California, marking the start of a mission to bring its teachings to Filipino communities and others abroad. Throughout the 1970s, Iglesia Ni Cristo expanded across North America, adding congregations in major cities like New York and regions such as Guam and Canada. In 1972, Europe welcomed the Church by forming a congregation in London, followed by congregations in Australia during the mid-1970s. By the decade's end, Iglesia Ni Cristo had reached Asia with congregations established in Hong Kong, Thailand, and Japan and expanded into Africa in 1978 with congregations in Nigeria and South Africa. The Church’s outreach continued into the 1980s and 1990s, as Iglesia Ni Cristo established congregations in Scandinavian countries and Latin America, including a congregation in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Cities of significant cultural and religious heritage, such as Rome, Jerusalem, and Athens, became Iglesia Ni Cristo worship service centers. By the early 2000s, the Church’s mission extended to South America, with congregations formed in Brazil and Peru. When Brother Eraño Manalo passed away in 2009, Iglesia Ni Cristo had reached more than half of the world’s regions and brought together members from 152 racial and ethnic backgrounds. Today, Iglesia Ni Cristo members join twice-weekly worship services with hymns, prayers, offerings, and Bible-based teachings. Under the guidance of the Executive Minister and administrative offices worldwide, the Church remains unified in faith. Through the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, Iglesia Ni Cristo continues to extend compassion by providing humanitarian aid, reflecting its dedication to serving others and living out biblical teachings wherever its members are found.
